The history of the Hakka Association of Thailand
There are no records for us to study when Hakka Descendants pioneered into Thailand. From the data recorded, we know that the Hakka people have been in Thailand From the Sukhothai Period up to the Chakri Dynasty for many hundred years. Even the organization of Hakka Society in Thailand has a history of more than one hundred year. It can be divided into 5 periods as follows:

    1. During the founding of "Ji Xian Club"
In 1870, "Ji Xian Club" was founded at Wangburapa by a group of Hakka people in Thailand. Mr. Li Jiaren and Mr. Wu Fu administered this Club for the perpose of giving an importance to integrity, interdependence, and co-operation among themselves.
2.During the period of "Ming Shun" and "Qun Ying"
At the end of the Qing Dynasty, there were conflicts among Hakka people because of the changes of the leadership and circumstances. Finally, it was divided into "Ming Shun Club",which was administered by Mr. Chen Shunqin and "Qun Ying Club", which was administered by Mr. Liang Guang and Mr. Lin Yisheng.

       3. During the establishment of "The Hakka Society of Siam"
In 1901, Mr. Yu Cipeng, a Hakka member of The League Society of China came to visit Thailand and found that establishment of many varied organizations among the Hakka was not good for unity. So, he tried to bring the two parties together and persuaded them to dissolve the clubs in order to set up a new united one. In 1909 "The Hakka Society of Siam" was established and Chao Phraya Yommarat, Interior Minister then was invited to preside over the opening ceremony for the society nameplate located in front of the Chinese shrine "Lee Tee Biao". Mr. Yang Liqing was the President of the first period, Mr. Wu Zuonan was the Vice President, and Mr. Xu Yanhui was a treasurer. In the second period of presidency, Mr. Hou Lanting was the President and following by Mr. Xu Ziting who held presidency in the third period.

      4. The registration of "The Oversea Hakka Society of Thailand"
In 1912, the Society exchanged the land with the Thai government for a new lot on Phadsai Road and built the new office building there which is the present locationg of the Society. Later, the regulations of the society were imposed and it was registered as "The Oversea Hakka Society ofThailand". On December 21st, B.E.2470 (B.C.1927), Mr. Wu Zuonan was elected as the President of the Society,Mr. Ye Yunfang as the Vice President, Mr. Xiong Youlin as a treasurer and Mr. Huang Shaowei as a secretary.

    5. The history of the Hakka Association of Thailand
In 1936, in order to develop the organization of the Hakka Society in the provinces, the regulations of the provincial offices and branches of the Society were imposed for the first time, while the name of "The Oversea Hakka Society of Thailand" was changed as "The Oversea Hakka Association of Thailand". Later in 1967, for solving the problems and getting rid of all difficulties in development of Society, the Hakka Societies in the provinces were registered independently, and ran their own Societies from then onward. On February 17th, B.E.2515 (B.C.1972), the annual meeting of the

Oversea Hakka Association members in Bangkok approved the new name of "The Hakka Association of Thailand" with "Ke Zhong" as its short form. In addition, many clubs have been founded to delelop activities of the Association. It totals 8 clubs, namely Education Club, Sports Club, Female Club, Public Relations Club, Welfare Club, Commerce Club, Co-ordination Club, and Youth Club. The Association has 4 cemeteries: Silom Cemetery, Trok Chan Cemetery, Jong Jin Cemetery and Chan Fah Cemetery, 6 Chinese shrines: Sum Nai Keng Shrine, Lee Tee Biao Shrine, Rong Kerk Shrine, Pun Thao Kong Shrine, Guan Ou Shrine and Guan-Im Nia Shrine, 2 schools: Jin Tek School and Asia Business Colledge, 1 hospital: Chung Jen Hospital. In addition, each year the Association has set up the scholarship to award to the children of the member and the funding foundation for old-aged people to support welfare to them. On November 17th, B.E.2544 (B.C.2001), the 9th Hakka Friendship Meeting in Nakonsawan province agreed to change "Keshu" to "Kejia" which means "Hakka" in Chinese character.
